ABOUT RASDHOO
We are located on the island of Rasdhoo, situated 58.26 km (36 mi; 31 min) west of the country's capital, Malé. The Maldives is divided into 21 atolls and in each atoll, there are around 6 to 10 inhabitant Islands. our two properties, ‘BRICKWOOD & GANDUVARU’ are located in one such atoll ‘ALIF ALIF’ .The name of our island is Alif Alif Rasdhoo and is an inhabited island with an approximate population of 1,300, with 75 or more houses and the atoll office, island office, police station, Family & children Services centre, hospital, school, recreation club, a well laid out island with a street system similar to that found in the US, scuba diving centre, snorkelling, Bank and ATM ,various popular restaurants serving a variety of Asian, local & western dishes, souvenir shops and much more. Rasdhoo is a typical residential island, hence once you visit the Island you will experience the entire picture of Maldivian Island life.
The island is derived from historical volcanic activity and is flat, sandy, covered with vegetation such as palms, and other forms of tropical foliage. The island is approximately 2 to 5 feet high from sea level.
Surrounded by amazing coral reefs that provide people who are adventurous for snorkelling. This area is an ideal place for divers and connoisseurs of the underwater world as great giants like mantas, hammerhead sharks and myriads of colourful fish, sea turtles, dolphins and harmless reef sharks. Divers have even dubbed the atoll ‘fish soup’ for its sheer variety of underwater creatures, which is not surprising as it is recognized as one of the world’s top dive locations.
Even to this day, you can still immerse yourself in local culture passed down through the generations, such as the traditional song, “Boduberu”. The Locals are very respectable, open and friendly to foreigners and always ready to welcome visitors to their lifestyle and traditions. Rasdhoo is lucky to have one of the most popular sandbanks and lagoons in the Maldives often seen in social posts around the world. The lagoon is home to a variety of sea life and is only around 5 meters deep with clear waters and is just a few minutes boat ride away. Alongside this is the deserted island of Madivaru where you can imagine yourself back in the days of Jack Sparrow!!
